About Us – The Rascals Story

From kitesurfing in Sri Lanka to The First Cabana

Mondy Ciappina (Italian/English Kitesurfer, Windsurfer, Cricketer and Free diver) and Johanna Berg (Swedish/Sri Lankan Engineer and Kitesurfer) came to Kalpitiya in 2011. They rented a small house in the village and spent most of the days kitesurfing in Sri Lanka and enjoying the simple island life in a still unnoticed kite paradise.

Already during their first weeks they met many welcoming faces, some of whom were to become like brothers and sisters to them, and so they decided this was where they would settle.

With the interest in kitesurfing growing all over the world, putting the pole for that first cabana in their garden was a natural step, and so was inviting their new found friends to join their team.

Created through sweat and laughter, thick and thin

By the beginning of 2012 they raised their board and awaited their first guests, but The Rascals was not created over night. It was created through sweat and laughter, thick and thin. The Rascals represent team work. They represent family and equality and they grow together every day.

After 4 years of learning and gaining experience together they had found their dream team. Slowly they had created a name for themselves with returning guest and by the beginning of 2016, they found THE perfect piece of land to assign for the future.

In December 2016, the doors opened to The Rascals 2.0 edition and they have found themselves just where they want to be.

We proudly invite you to experience our kitesurfing paradise in Kalpitiya, Sri Lanka. Hope to see you here soon!
